It reads. I recently had the pleasure (DIS) to be on the wrong side of a drill doctor's office. And yes, the exercise was the cure, not bad!
Here's the story …
I had a strange week last month and took advantage of progress in restoring a 1963 Corvette Split Window. Are still being dismantled, as the time is spent removing and cleaning dirty rooms. This involves first a bath in a roomcleaning and polishing then usually a liberal with a wire wheel on my grinder. Now wire the treadmill can be very bad, because the individual child, sometimes you let go and fly at a speed dangerous. Thinking small bullet-shaped August
So, always wear safety glasses. This is something that is ingrained in me since I was a teenager helping my father and uncles in the garage. Those were the days of wooden shop-style glasses. You know, those very ugly to look moremask and snorkel? However, the glass industry has advanced since then security, safety glasses and many other high-fashion sunglasses as cool. And that's what I had while correcting a Corvette rusty bent my day off. It was not enough.
The problem with these lenses, glasses cold / do not close tightly to your face. They are better than standard lenses, but still leave gaps, both above and below. And this gap is below the path of a stray dogmetal band was the tip of my left eye. I felt safe, but it was a very small particle and does not worry me more than a piece of sand or earth in a windstorm. I continued working on the Corvette and not think too much tonight.
The next morning when I woke up my eyes still hurt. Again, just the feeling that some specific baby was there and would not leave. Or so I thought I had scratched the cornea and cared for. The eye heals veryQuick.
Go to the doctor
But two days later, the pain was nothing less. Having my wife watch closely with a magnifying glass, you can see the specifications. He could not say what it was, but seemed trapped in the cornea true, not just around. Of course it was a Saturday, so I reluctantly went to the attention on the urgent need to sit on an uncomfortable chair for 2 hours.
When the doctor finally came to me and looked into his eyes with his black-outs in justto 15 seconds to guess what happened. He said he sees very often. The small strip of metal was hot when it left the factory, so when it came to his eyes that melts in your way and stayed there. So the tears and eye drops to normal movement.
Then the fun begins. It is an eye drop that numbs the site. It 'a strange feeling, I can say. He left the room (probably for another look at the tape of the boy next door) and returned after the fall had aopportunity to really do their job. Then turn down the lights and use this device to keep your eyes open. It seemed an extension of the medieval period. Then the doctor pulls out his tray spikes, needles and other sharps brilliant. He chose the strongest and comes to me with it.
OK, so I'm always quiet … Most of the time. At first I thought there was no way I can keep my attention as he shook the needle to collect what he said. However, anesthetic dropseffectively worked to counteract my natural reaction to flash. Well, the camera on my eyelids open and curious. Then he begins to take the piece of metal. Every time I tried my vision would move and moved the needle has become my eyeball!
Finally, he came and gave me a sigh of relief that the worst was over. But it was not the case.
The Watcher in the Woods feared!
The doctor explained that the specification was metal in the eye long enough toactually started to rust. With a mirror that shows me in the left eye with his right. You can see a halo on my cornea is slightly darker than when the specification was. And apparently, the oxide is toxic to the cornea to allow the repair itself was not an option. So, you know how to get the rust from your own eye? The drilling!
Drilling is a handmade work with small teams. It reminds me of the dentist uses the drill, which obviously does not help my mood at that moment. Thedoctors told me to relax (yeah, right!) and then start drilling in the eye. What I learned later, it seems more polished, without perforation. The idea is to grind / drill in all areas where the rust has spread. Once the toxin is removed from the eye heals on where to practice. Basically it is the lesser of two evils. Drilling is bad, but it is regrettable that they can recover. Leaving the oxide, there would be more damaging the spread.
Everything went well, butcertainly not something that should be repeated. So now when I work on my Corvette ready for sale or anything else in the garage that has the potential to share the flight, wearing a mask. I still wear my glasses because it is used only cool looking, but I have a full face shield, seated next to the factory I can put most of the safety glass. You should also consider whether the time is spent in the garage. Your eyes are not exactly interchangeable!
